Acetate Sunglasses
Acetate sunglasses use cellulose acetate, a material derived from cellulose that can be produced in opaque, translucent or patterned sheets. Colour can extend through the material or be arranged in layers, creating depth that becomes visible along bevelled edges and sculpted surfaces. Frame fronts and temples can be cut and shaped from acetate sheets, then finished to define their contours and surface texture. Changes in thickness, bevelling and polish alter the profile, from slender rims to more substantial forms. Metal cores can reinforce the temples and may remain visible through translucent acetate.
